I'm all for the notion of self-publishing. It drives a project that might otherwise be abandoned through to completion. And the need for a formal, polished version of a work, whatever its destiny, makes for an improved manuscript. But if you're going to take the self-publishing route, please hire a real graphic designer for the cover; don't try to do it yourself. You need the objective eye of a professional. Every glance at your book jacket is a job interview. Make sure you look your best.
